Question 1 (15 points) Saved Denning was trying to hire a financial consultant for his small firm starting July 15 He interviewed several potential candidates, including Smiley, on June 23. At the close of the interview, Denning told Smiley he was impressed with her work experience and that he would let her know "one way or the other" whether she got the position within the next few days. Smiley advised that she would be out of Victoria for a few days, but she would check her voice mail periodically. On June 25 Denning called Smiley at her home number, but she was not in. Denning left a voice mail message with the news that he had decided to hire her and would she please confirm with him "in the next few days or so" that she would come to work for him. On June 26 Smiley phoned her home number from Dawson Creek where she was visiting her parents and checked her messages: she was ecstatic to hear she had been hired. On June 27 Denning was smitten with another candidate whose great credentials were overlooked, and he decided to hire her instead. He called Smiley's number again on June 28, but he was frustrated to note that she still was not in. He left another voice-mail message advising that someone else more qualified had been chosen for the position. After the Canada Day weekend, Denning got a phone call from Smiley asking him, "What gives here? First you say I'm hired, then you say I'm not."
