if a student attends every math class the probability of them passing the course is .8 but if they attend randomly the probability of passing the course is .5 If they fail they may take a make up exam where the probabilities of the passing is .60 if you attended every class and .10 if you attend ar random. Passing the course is worth five credits but in terms of energy and time attending full-time "costs" three credits and attending randomly costs one credit.
