Please help figuring out this exercise getting market data for two bonds belonging to United Parcel Service
Question:
Please help figuring out this exercise getting market data for two bonds belonging to United Parcel Service and Fedex. Go to FINRA's website http://finra-markets.morningstar.com/BondCenter/Default.jsp Across the very top you will see several tabs, "click" the one marked DATA and then click the tab that says Fixed Income Data (the one with a graphic that looks like a dollar bill). You will then see several light blue colored boxes. The first box labeled Fixed Income Security Lookup is what you will need to answer the first three questions below. Make sure you check the User Agreement box. In the window enter the bond symbol referenced in Q1 and Q2 to get the necessary information. After entering the symbol press the search icon (magnifying glass). This will return a line with the Symbol and Cusip information. Point the cursor at the line and click, this will then open a new window with the information you need to answer the first three questions. Get information on the UPS bond with the symbol UPS4969029. Coupon rate = XXX.XX% Maturity date of bond = MM/DD/YYYY S&P Bond rating = XXX Moody's Bond rating = XXX Last price at which this bond traded (Last Trade Price) Note: price shown needs to by x 10 to get the actual price = $XXXX.XX Yield to maturity (Last Trade Yield) = XXX.XX% Date you collected the above information (and info for Q2 Below): MM/DD/YYYY Get information on the Fedex bond with the symbol FDX4973962. Coupon rate = XXXX.XX% S&P Bond rating = XXX Maturity date of bond = MM/DD/YYYY Moody's Bond rating = XXX Last price at which this bond traded (Last Trade Price) Note: price shown needs to by x 10 to get the actual price = $XXXX.XX Yield to maturity (Last Trade Yield) = XXX.XX%
Are these bonds investment grade or non-investment grade? ______________________
Explain why the yield to maturity is different for these bonds even though the time remaining to maturity is approximately the same for both bonds
Calculate the yield to maturity for the UPS bond as taught in the class. Assume that today is 04/01/2023 and that the coupon payments will be made annually with the next payment to be made on 04/01/2024. For price, use the price from Q1(e) but assume it is for 04/01/23.
