Tort laws are rules that help protect people's privacy. If someone shares your private information or spies on you without permission, tort laws can help you take them to court. These laws have been around a long time, but the internet makes things harder. On the internet, people can share private stuff very quickly and often without saying who they are. That makes it tough to catch and punish them. A good example is the 2011 case AMP v. Persons Unknown. In this case, someone posted private photos of a woman on a file-sharing site without her okay. The courts couldn't find out who did it, but they still told people to stop sharing the pictures. This shows that internet torts can work, but they aren't perfect.

Because of the internet's speed and reach, regular tort laws can't always keep up. According to Spinello (2020) in Cyberethics: Morality and Law in Cyberspace, the law has to change and grow as technology does. People can help protect themselves by being careful about what they share online, using privacy settings, and keeping personal info safe with strong passwords or encryption. Even though the internet makes things more complicated, tort laws still help protect privacythey just need a few upgrades to work better online.
