Please help make response to this post and have an openended question at the end.
The CFR Hazard Communication Standard HCS was established by Occupational Safety and Health Administration to pride guidance to employers and employees alike. The guidance breaks down hazardous chemicals that could be present within the workplace and the risk that are present when those said chemicals are around. This standard speaks on how employers notify their workers of these hazardous chemicals and drive home best practices to keep the work area safe.
Within reverse logistics we always preach safety in everything we do because it can get hectic within each step of the process. It is very common to come into contact with hazardous chemicals while we handle, transport or dispose of products. The CFR HCS allows employees to have the knowledge of risks and how to tackle any safety violations which in turn reduces workplace injuries. Within knowing the risk, we look at risk management. The goal of every employer is to mitigate risk as much as possible but to totally eliminate risk is not possible. Providing the proper personnel protective equipment PPE is vital to ensure personnel that have to come in contact with hazardous material are well protected. Lastly, when contact is inevitable companies must have proper procedures in place to respond to emergencies. The CFR HCS requires that employers have these plans in place and that employees are well trained on how to handle emergency situations. This would involve having spill kits available, emergency contacts well posted and a way to communicate issues to the highest level. There are plenty of other items of importance to list when talking about the CFR HCS but the main goal is to create best practices for hazardous communication and to build a safe working space.
