8: From the perspective of the subordinates, discuss why culturally inappropriate leadership behaviors might be demotivating.

This is a great question as I think through watching the movie we can learn why this would be demotivating. When Todd first arrives in India, it is obviously a culture shock and he was having a difficult time embracing the culture. This translated to less success when attempting to train the new call center. As a subordinate, it is important to see your manager attempt to adopt the overall culture or at least take interest in understanding it. Todd did not like being called sir and was confused as to why his subordinates called him that but to them, it is a cultural norm that Todd had to adapt to and embrace.

Having a manager who is unwilling to cross culturally train will not result in successful operations. This will demotivate subordinates because there will be a large gap the way that subordinates do tasks and how managers see and want tasks done. Outside of work, subordinates will not appreciate working for someone who does not make an effort to understand the culture thus driving them away. This then begins to develop a negative work environment for everyone.
