4.3 Assignment: Annotated Bibliography
Purpose
This assignment will help you to analyze, summarize, and evaluate various types of research material.
Remember: You are researching ONE of the topics presented at the beginning of Module 4. The sources examined in this Annotated Bibliography will be used in your Argument Research Paper. This annotated bibliography will become the basis of your Works Cited page for the Argument Research Paper.
Definition: An annotated bibliography is your works cited list, with added information for each source. In addition to the citation, each annotation should include a concisesummaryof andevaluationof each of the sources.Each annotationshould be a strong paragraph (about 150 words), double spaced.The annotations should be alphabetized by citation, just as you would alphabetize your works cited.

- Review these resources from the Module 4 Learning Materials:
- "What is an Annotated Bibliography and How do I Write One."
- "How to Get Started With Your Argument Essay Research."
- Research and select FIVE credible sources that you will use for your Argument Research Paper about the topic you chose at the beginning of Module 4. You may use the sources you researched for the Multiple Perspectives Discussion as part of your five sources.
Write
- Create anMLA formatted Annotated Bibliographythat listsand annotates at least FIVE independently researched scholarly and/or critical articles on the topic you have chosen to write about. Credible sources may include scholarly articles, newspaper articles/ editorials, news organizations such as NPR or CNN, reliable websites like .gov or .edu.
- Develop a tentative thesis statement. Write your thesis above your annotations.
- Create an annotation for each of your sources. Each annotation should include:
- an MLA formatted citation
- a summary of the source in your own wording and style (about 100 words)
- an evaluation of the credibility of the sources and how the source supports your argument and will fit in your essay (at least 50 words)
- Put your thesis and all the annotations in ONE document and format your document in MLA style. Remember to list sources alphabetically according to the first word of each citation.
- Submit your document as a file upload in Word, Google docs, or pdf format.
