Transcript of Criminal Mischief Teens Caught On Tape Tossing Debris From Bridge Male Newscaster: Cameras were rolling when then the kids throw a log, rocks and pieces of brick off the East 9th Street Bridge over I-235. We first told you last week about some kids who throwing concrete and steel rods onto the freeway. Female Newscaster (Stacey): And tonight, another group of kids caught doing the same thing. Bob Kapel is live along the East 9th Street Bridge with the News Channel 8 exclusive. Bob? Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): Yeah thats right Stacey, we were in the area when we heard the call go out over the police scanners when we pulled up to the East 9th Street Bridge we saw a teen throw this exact log off the bridge onto oncoming traffic; we immediately called 9-1-1. Male Policeman: This could have been deadly. Someone could have died. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): This is what police are talking about, our cameras catching kids throwing everything from bricks to an entire log off the East 9th Street Bridge right into traffic on I-235 below right in the middle of rush hour. Male Policeman: As the officer arrived at the East 9th Street Bridge, he observed a juvenile throw what looked like a log over the railing onto the freeway. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): Police on the scene in a matter of moments; arresting two kids. They say luckily no one was hurt, but two cars were damaged. This was the scene on the interstate minutes later, a log surrounded by more thrown debris littering 235. Why did they do it? Male Suspect (Jonathan Butts): Because I was dared to by a whole bunch of kids that I had been hanging out with for a while. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): You were dared to? Male Suspect (J. Butts): Yeah. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): Police say 13-year-old, Jonathan Butts threw the log. Male Suspect (J. Butts): I was walking up here with my friends and they decided to go up there with a couple of bricks and threw stuff off first and then they dared me to throw a tree stump, but I threw it in the grass. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): Now Butts says it wasnt worth it. Police say hes lucky no one was killed. Policeman: There have been some cases around the country that weve heard of where people have been killed in these similar circumstances. Suspect (J. Butts): Im sorry for throwing stuff at them. Male Newscaster (Bob Kapel): Back out here along the 9th Street Bridge, East 9th Street Bridge, and I-235. This is another piece of debris that we found on the road; a piece brick, thats another thing we caught them throwing off of that very bridge. Now Police telling us tonight they will be charged, two of those teens, or rather two of those juveniles, with criminal mischief. Lucky nobody else was hurt. If youll recall a week ago those force of suspects that were also on the loose who also apparently threw off debris off the 9th Street Bridge, not the East 9th Street Bridge, they are still at large tonight. Kevin and Stacey Newscaster (Stacey): Well Bob, you talked to Jonathan tonight, the kid, the one who threw the log over. Did he talk about what kind of trouble he got into when he got home? Newscaster (Bob): No, he did not mention it. We saw police take him inside and he was back out within a few minutes. Newscaster (Stacey): Ok Bob, thank you.
