Here is the question.
Research indicates that certain personality traits and other capabilities are associated with success in leadership and management. Several of the Big Five personality traits (see Chapter 3, Section 3-2a in the textbook) have been found to relate to success in leadership, such as extraversion and conscientiousness. Emotional intelligence (EI) is also believed to be important for successful leadership. See Chapter 3, Section 3-4c in the textbook and the Luthans article, Positive Organizational Behavior, for a discussion of EI.
Complete the NEO-PI and EI assessments (see below). The NEO-PI is a popular scale that measures the Big Five personality traits. The EI scale is based on Golemanss EI model (see the textbook).
V. Complete the NEO-PI Assessment
- The assessment is located on Blackboard in the November 22-23 & 29-December 3 Personality & Leadership Self-Assessments folder.
- Obtain your results from the assessment by following the scoring instructions. Provide your score for each of the Big Five traits.
- Are your scores consistent with your MBTI personality type? In what way do they appear consistent? In what way might they appear inconsistent?
For example, if your MBTI results indicate you are introvert, do you get a low extraversion score on this scale? If your MBTI results indicate that you are perceiving, do you get a high score on openness to experience?
- How might your scores on the Big Five traits facilitate or hinder your leadership ability?
Here is my assessment.
The Big Five Personality Test
Introduction
This is a modified version of the NEO-PI, a personality test that measures the Big Five personality traits. It will help you understand why you act the way that you do and how your personality may be structured. Please follow the instructions below. The scoring and interpretation follow the questions. There are no right or wrong answers.

The question numbers are shown in parentheses below. Write your score (1-5) on the blank following the question. For example, if you answered question (1) with a score of 2, write 2 on the blank.
E = (1) _5____ + (6) ___5__ + (11) ____5_ + (16) _3____ + (21) _5____ = ______ (Extraversion)=23
A = (2) __4___ + (7) ____4_ + (12) _____5 + (17) _5____ + (22) _5____ = ______ (Agreeableness)=23

O = (5) ___5__ + (10) _5____ + (15) __5___ + (20) __4___ + (25) __5___ = ______ (Openness to =24Experience)
The scores you calculate for each personality characteristic should be between 5-25. Scores from 5-10 can be considered lower and scores above 10 can be considered higher.

Extraversion (E) is the personality trait of seeking fulfillment from sources outside the self or in community. High scores tend to be very social while low scores prefer to work on their projects alone.
Agreeableness (A) reflects that many individuals adjust their behavior to suit others. High scorers are typically polite and like people. Low scorers tend to tell it like it is.
Conscientiousness (C) is the personality trait of being honest and hardworking. High scorers tend to follow rules and prefer clean homes. Low scorers may be messy and cheat others.
Neuroticism (N) is the personality trait of being emotional.
Openness to Experience (O) is the personality trait of seeking new experience and intellectual pursuits. High scorers may daydream a lot. Low scorers may be very down to earth.
