CASE APPLICATION Emirates Aluminium: Developing Skills of New Employees Forty-eight Emirati trainees began a series of develop ment programs at Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) that aimed at preparing them for future positions in the com- pany. Twenty-six were enrolled in the pre-employment course for smelter operations (PEC Smelter designed for the training of non-supervisory level employees. For a period of six months, these trainees learned about smelter operations. An additional 22 Emirati nationals also entered into a development program designed for recent university graduates.
