This is a tropical moist broadleaf forest biome, which experiences high humidity and warm temperatures throughout the year. The frog inhabits cave ecosystems and the forests around them, depending on the specialized microhabitats they create. 3. As an insectivorous amphibian, the Portland Ridge Frog performs the crucial function of controlling insect populations, maintaining ecological balance. By feeding on a variety of insects, it helps manage potential pest species, a service that is valuable to the general health of its ecosystem. Additionally, the frog is also a food source for higher-level predators such as birds and small mammals. It promotes biodiversity and preserves the ecological integrity of its tropical forest and cave ecosystem (UMGC, n.d.). 4. The main threat to the Portland Ridge Frog is habitat loss, mainly caused by deforestation for agricultural purposes, urbanization, and charcoal burning. Research and monitoring should be conducted to gather data on population trends, breeding behavior, and habitat requirements to guide conservation strategies. Community engagement plays a vital role, as involving local communities in conservation efforts through environmental awareness and sustainable livelihoods can promote habitat preservation. Additionally, policy enforcement must be strengthened to prevent illegal activities such as unauthorized land conversion and deforestation. By implementing these measures, we can improve the survival chances of the Portland Ridge Frog and contribute to the overall health of Jamaica's unique ecosystems.
