Instructions:

We will assume that the convenience sample of students who answered the student survey are a representative sample of all Statistics students at Solano Community College.

Here is the questions to analyze with a Goodness of Fit Test:

1. Are the seven colors of the rainbow favored equally?

There are 92 responses who answered 22 Blue, 18 Green, 1 Indigo, 4 Orange, 14 Red, 24 Violet, 9 Yellow.

Answer the Prompt:

1. Select the column containing the categorical variable needed to answer the question that you pick from 1 - 3 above.(Are the seven colors of the rainbow favored equally?) Sort your column to find the sample size (n) and the number of observations in each of the categories.
2. Compose a table showing each category of your categorical variable, the observed number in each category from the sample data and the expected number that is computed based on the null hypothesis.
3. Show all the steps of the Chi-Square goodness of fit test: the null and alternate hypotheses, show the calculations to compute the test statistic,
4. find the P-value (or the critical value),
5. State the decision and explain why that is the correct decision (based either on the P-value or the critical value), and compose a conclusion in the context of the problem that you selected. In other words, explain what the results mean about the distribution of the categorical variable.
