Case Study

A customer bought a new car from a franchised automobile dealership in the local area.

The car came with a warranty for one year.

Eight months after the car was purchased, the customer began having problems with the transmission.

She took the car back to the dealer and some minor adjustments were made.

During the following few months, she continually had a similar problem with the transmission slipping.

Each time the dealer made only minor adjustments to the car.

During the thirteenth month after the car had been bought, the customer returned to the dealer because the transmission still was not functioning properly. At this time, the transmission was completely overhauled.

Since the warranty was for one year, the dealership can charge full price for parts and labor of the repair done in the thirteenth month.
