Purpose Our software system product development company, SIE Corporation, is building Learning Management System, a suite of software applications for managing and delivering learning content. The purpose of this project is to encourage our in-house student intern teams to compete for the best design. The description below in the Overview section provides the teams guidance and product vision. The purpose of the SIE LMS is to enable instructors to deliver learning content to students, allow students to take online assessments, and provide helpful analytics to instructors and students like student progress and student grades. Overview There are four main subsystems to the SIE LMS: Content Management (CM), Assessment Management (AM), Gradebook Management (GM), and System Administration Management (SAM). SIE LMS will be centrally hosted by SIE Corporation in the cloud, delivered as Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) to instructors or their institutions through a subscription which may be paid monthly or annually. Phase 1 (Current Competition) The CM subsystem manages learning material as content, allowing the instructor to add, modify, and delete content. Content includes .PDFS, MS Word documents, MS Excel files, external links, or images. Videos can be linked to (external link), but will be managed by a third party, YouTube. The GM subsystem manages the Gradebook, allowing the instructor to add, modify, and delete gradebook items for a course (e.g., Homework, Quiz, Exam). The GM provides the capability for the instructor to manage graded assessments and post grades for each student, for each assessment. The subsystem allows students to view posted grades. The GM provides data analytics including student progress (for students and instructors) and student progress by course instructor only) The SAM subsystem provides SIE LMS system user management System users include instructors and students. Information for these system users includes username, password, email address, and authorization While performing object-oriented analysis, modeling, and design, teams are encouraged and expected to identify additional requirements and use cases. Phase II (Out of Scope for Phase I Competition) The following subsystem, Assessment Management, will be part of a future design phase and not addressed at this time. The AM subsystem allows the instructor to build assessments (e.g., quizzes and exams), students to take and be graded on an assessment. This subsystem also contains an Assignment Folder that allows students to upload their work and instructors to view, download, and grade the work
