Identify what each coverage would respond to each claim you may identify and how much would the net recovery be, if anything at all for each of the following scenarios. (Each scenario is to be considered a separate occurrence from any other listed)
- Bills parks his car directly under the towns water tower. Unbeknownst to him the town had contracted with Painting is us to paint the water tower that day. The painters had set up their equipment the night before and began to spray the tower sides eventually completing the job in a couple of hours. Bill returned after they had packed up and left to find that his car had minute speckles of paint matching the water towers color all over the exterior of his car! The cost to refinish his car? $3,500. (clear coat)
- Paul is a bicycle nut. He was riding his bike whizzing through the streets when he rounded a turn, hit Bills parked car and flew across the cars hood denting it, and breaking his collarbone. His bike was a total loss at $2,500. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where his ER bills totaled $3,200, follow up care with his orthopedist $1,000 and loss of earnings of $3,000. The dent in the hood cost $484.00 to repair.
- Bill dropped his car off at Larrys repair shop. Because of the hour, Larry placed the car into the holding pen which was enclosed by a perimeter chain link fence. He had overhead lights to illuminate the yard overnight and had a guard dog which roamed freely within the confined space. Two thieves came in the night, drugged the guard dog and hot wired Bills car. They took off. Fortunately Ed the cop was rounding a corner down the street from Larrys and saw the Toyota break through the perimeter gate. He gave chase---the Toyota went out of control and struck a telephone pole totaling it. (Market value $18,400.00)
- Fred was riding with Bill who was driving his Toyota from his home to their place of work. While enroute they began to talk politics and the recent election. Fred was a dyed in the wool Democrat and the same could be said for Bill except that he was Republican. The discussion became heated and Bill pulled to the side of the road to meet Freds challenge of fisticuffs. They both got out of the car and went at it with each other. Fred had a broken nose and cuts and bruises on his face while Bill had a fractured jaw. Both went to the hospital ER, Fred had a bill of $2,017 while Bill had one of $4,100.
- Bill parked his car in front of his building and went in for the night. The next morning he came out to drive to work and found that the rear end of his vehicle had been caved in by another vehicle, but he had no idea who did it. He called the police and reported the incident and then called his carrier. Total damages to repair $5,045.00
- Bill was traveling on US 13 and struck another vehicle in the rear which had been stopped for a red light. Two individuals were hurt and taken to the hospital. The other vehicle had $4,038 worth of damage sustained while Bills car had sustained $1,447.00 worth of damage. Each of the two individuals, as they were being carted away in the ambulance told him they would be suing him for their injuries. They werent kidding. Six months later he received suit papers from each citing $50,000 claim for one and $150,000 for the other. Bill was not injured as a result of this accident.
7. Bill was following a pick up truck which was obviously taking a load of debris and materials to the local land fill. The truck before him hit a bump in the road and a sewing machine flew up over the tailgate, hit the road surface and bounced up into Bill's grill puncturing his radiator. He instinctively swerved but to no avail. He wasn't hurt but his car had to be towed. A refurbished (re-cored) radiator was located and replaced the original at a cost of $337.58/
8. Paul and Mindy were traveling to Washington D.C. to spend the day visiting museums and having lunch by the National Mall. Paul attempted to merge with traffic, but entered the roadway at half the speed he should have to engage seamlessly. He was struck by a tractor trailer causing $8,048.00 (total loss) damage to his vehicle. Both he and Mindy were taken by ambulance from the scene to a local hospital. Paul was treated and released to the care of his own doctor while Mindy stayed at the hospital for four days before being discharged. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained $6,719 damage to his truck. He sought psychological counseling from a clinical psychologist stating that he could have killed Paul and or Mindy and was emotionally a wreck as he drives for a living.
9. Bob needed to make money so he took a job as a part time pizza deliveryman. While out making deliveries one Friday evening, a white pick up truck coming the opposite direction of Bob crossed over the center line and partially into Bob's lane of travel. Bob saw the vehicle approach and hit his horn while at the same time cutting his steering wheel to the right to avoid an impact. He was successful in that regard but the right tire of his car hit the unpaved shoulder and his vehicle snapped around striking the guard rail causing $3,837 of damage. Bob injured his neck and back and was unable to work for a couple of weeks losing $747 in hourly wages and anticipated tips.
10. Arlene had saved for three years setting $1000 a month aside so that she could get a new Subaru without having to finance it. The day finally arrived and she made the private purchase and took possession of the vehicle. The original owner had only put 326 miles on the odometer---virtually brand new right out of the box! Fully loaded! Three weeks after procurement she was out and about performing personal errands when she came to a stop behind a small VW bug. She day dreamed and in so doing her foot came off her brake and her car went forward striking the VA in the rear. The driver of the VW exited and was holding her neck saying that she was going home from the hospital where she had been treated for a sore neck and back. Arlene's front end sustained $870 damage, the VW $438 and the driver of the VW sent her a bill for the emergency room of $1,414 for x-rays and other diagnostics. Her accompanying letter said that she was amenable to any reasonable offers to settle out of court.
