"Professionals should look for ways to continuously improve and accomplish goals through individual career planning. Self-assessment gives professionals the ability to review and analyze how their characteristics apply in the work place and how it applies to their career goals. Being self aware is powerful and I believe that it helps us actively work towards being better people and professionals. Organizations benefit from employee self-assessment, as it allows the employee to identify where they fit in the future with the company. Employees should seek feedback from others regarding their job performance and career plans to get an outside perspective on how they are viewed in relation to their goals. There are times when we feel that one path seems right for us, but we do not see why it may not be the best fit. Additionally, each person contributes to the flow of the team, so employees should know if their contribution is being helpful, or if adjustments should be made. Performance appraisal information helps individuals understand their strengths and weaknesses, which in turn, can identify which strengths can be used to build a career plan that fits them. It can also help an individual understand where they stand in their career and where they are on their career journey. Finally, organizations should focus on developing strong leaders. All employees have the potential to lead, even if they do not hold a specific leadership position. Organizations who support leadership building will likely have a stronger team that is driven to accomplish company goalsandtheir own career goals."
