We would like to investigate the relationship between available financial data for California hospitals and stroke outcomes. Financial information that will be available include hospital type (ex for profit, not for profit, teaching), insurance information, income statements, expenses. This will be combined with available information regarding 30 day stroke readmission and mortality. We are interested to learn what, if any, financial variables are correlated with improved stroke outcomes. Understanding this data might be informative in regards to how hospital budgeting and finances impact quality of stroke care. The hospital financial dataset has multiple variables that correspond to the Inpatient Utilization of various hospitals in a column titled "Variable". We will likely need to pivot those variables into columns to perform analysis.
The Ischemic stroke dataset also has a similar column titled "Measure", which indicates whether the data is for 30-day Mortality or Readmission. We will likely need to pivot or analyze separately.
We will likely combine all years (2011-2015) together rather than comparing each year independently.
Other than what is mentioned above, the datasets have been previously cleaned and standardized somewhat so we don't expect too many challenges at this point in time.
