The below list encompasses the top five skills that are most important for managers to be successful at EC company.
Communication:
Communication is essential to leadership and management; excellent innovation and influence without effective communication will provide no benefit (Gallo, 2022, para 1). Communication is a two-way street; managers must foster effective listening and speaking skills to ensure proper and effective communication. Effective listening skills can be practiced by all involved in the communication process; don't interrupt the person speaking, keeping an open mind, and ask questions are all effective methods to improve communication reception (Schilling, 2012).
Build trust in individuals:
Trust in individuals is critical to the success of a workplace; employees must trust their managers and leaders. Managers are unable and shouldn't observe every minute of their employee's work performance; having trust in individual employees to make the right choices and actions will result in positive results. Employee performance is strongly associated with the trust established between individuals (Blanchard, 2010).
Build trust in team relationships:
Collaborative team performance is directly associated with establishing trust within the team setting. When team members have established trust and relationships, the emotional investment is increased; innovation and knowledge sharing occur regularly in teams with robust trust (Crowe Associates, 2019, para 2).
Manage knowledge:
Knowledge Management (KM) has multiple benefits to an organization; there are many different aspects to incorporating KM within a company that requires deliberate planning and integration. KM is a practice of capturing, collecting, storing, and redistributing information; tacit knowledge is converted to explicit knowledge that will be distributed as intelligence (Leeb, 2014, 01:40). Effective managers must incorporate knowledge management with employees; the time and resources saved by effective KM practices are critical to success.
Cultivate your customers and their employees:
EC wants strong relationships with all their customers regardless of location, relationships that are cultivated from foundations of trust and confidence (Dubois, 2010, para 1-3). Making the most long-distance relationships within the US and internationally requires similar approaches. Consistent communication, honesty, and clear expectations will benefit US and international customer relationships (Ali, 2015, para 1-5). A manager's involvement in cultivating and maintaining relationships is critical for long-term enduring customers.
Three recommended skills
Cognitive flexibility:
Cognitive flexibility is an essential aspect of modern business environments; the pace of evolvement within a business requires managing multiple complex situations simultaneously (Sahakian & Christopoulos, 2023, para 7-8). Developing and improving cognitive flexibility will bolster a manager's decision-making ability to make better decisions more timely.
Complex problem solving:
Complex problem-solving aids in the depth of consideration a manager analyses before making a decision; the solution used is determined after considering the future impact and other contributing factors to the decision being made (Indeed, 2022, para 2). Successful businesses integrate solutions that incorporate many complex considerations; applying complex problem-solving methodologies toward determining the right solution creates business success.
Judgment and decision making:
Judgment and decision-making go far beyond the ability to make the right choice; before judgment and decision-making occur, managers/leaders must be highly proficient in listening and reading (Likierman, 2020, pg. 104). Combining experience and knowledge allows managers to make well-informed decisions using sound judgment for any given situation, regardless of prior experience with a specific topic (Likierman, 2020, pg. 104).
Strengths and weaknesses
The below-listed strengths and weaknesses are derived from a self-reflective approach with honesty. My strengths in complex problem-solving and cognitive flexibility are derived from my 15 years of encompassing work experience in an industry that requires high-risk involvement. In complex work environments on a continuous schedule where all situations are complex and cognitive flexibility is quintessential to achieving success, I have become well-versed and effective in both areas.
Strengths:
Complex problem solving
Cognitive flexibility
I listed communication as a weakness, as I can continuously improve in communication skills as my experience evolves. Communication is the root of all business achievements; I am an effective communicator, yet failing to address communication improvement leads to failure continuously. Knowledge management and organization of knowledge is an areas I'm working towards improving. Structure and finding the right method of managing knowledge to reduce wasted time and resources is a goal I have.
Weakness:
Communication
Manage knowledge
