From Data Analysis to Insight
In Chapter 1, Duarte describes 3 ways to use data as a "magical tool" to provide insight. It can be used in a Reactive, Proactive, or Predictive manner. Use this framework to respond to the prompts below:
In your own words, explain your understanding of the 3 ways that data can be used to provide insight into the healthcare industry.
- Reactive: a data tool utilized to understand how the product performed or service experienced so improvements could be made. An example of this type of tool would be a survey (1).
- Proactive: a data tool utilized before the product was used or experienced. An example would be a focus group or market research regarding potential services or products (1).
- Predictive: a data tool that analyzes trends and patterns to prepare for the future (2).
Which of these 3 approaches is the most applicable to your project? Why?
The most appropriate data tool for my project is proactive data. The project's primary focus is to understand why employees leave and develop solutions to prevent further departures. Employing surveys geared towards mental health, morale, pay satisfaction, autonomy, and sense of value will provide proactive data that can be used to create solutions. Another beneficial data tool is reactive. Assessing and analyzing the survey data from HCAHPS and Press Gainey provides a glimpse into customers' experiences and satisfaction. There's a direct correlation between the survey and staff satisfaction. If patients give a positive satisfaction rating, the staff they encountered provided exemplary behavior with an enjoyable environment and positive experience (3).
Who are the stakeholders or decision-makers to whom you will need to present your insight and ideas?
The Key Stakeholders are as follows:
Chief Nursing Officer
Chief Executive Officer
Chief Medical Officer
Chief Financial Officer
Director of Human Resources
Director of Cardiology Service Line
How can Duarte's ideas in Chapter 2 and 3 on how to present data help you to engage and inform this audience?
- Duarte's ideas in Ch 2 and Ch 3 will aid me in providing relevant data in a meaningful way to engage and inform the decision team; understanding the team's background and what they value as important will help guide how to present and what to present to them. The data must be clear, precise, and aligned with the organization's mission, and the presentation must capture the audience's attention (2).
