Dear Dr. Agler and classmates,

Reflect back on your experiences with the Change Simulation. How would you approach it differently, based on what you learned in the course?

Which change leadership principles are the most challenging to apply in the workplace? Why? How can organizations overcome these obstacles?

Looking back to my simulation, choosing the right people to build a supporting guiding coalition should be my focus on leading any change. While I always have great ideas for business and welcome change, I cannot do it alone. The most challenging component of applying new changes to an organization is getting everyone to see the vision and be willing to follow the proper steps without being babysat by the leaders. Again, it goes back to one of Jack's four Es Energizing others(1). The only way to overcome these challenges is to continually share and talk about the idea throughout the organization with every chance we get as a leader. This is based on the assumption that no one likes to be told what to do and instead prefers to do the things they choose to do.

Reflect on your own professional development:

Which change leadership principle presents the most challenge to you? Why?

What steps can you take to overcome that challenge?

Reflecting on the growth in my personal life and my leadership skills, I always go back to the human side of the equation. Every business is a people's business. If a change leader can lead a great team, they can move mountains. It is always challenging to show empathy, understand the people in our organization and inspire them to be the best they can be. The human mind is so complex, and everyone thinks differently. As a change leader, I will need to possess the ability to meet people on their level and make them understand the vision in their vocabulary, show them what the change will mean for them and how their abilities can contribute to the bigger picture. It is an area I will continue to improve on by reading many books(2) from different genres, countries, eras and meeting many people from different backgrounds to learn and see their perspectives.
