Dissertation Topic and Problem Statement My dissertation focuses on racial disparities in the criminal justice system. I'm looking into how African American individuals often receive harsher sentences than White individuals for the same types of crimes. The problem I've identified is that, even with changes and reforms in the justice system, sentencing is still not equal. This issue is important because it challenges the fairness of our legal system, hurts trust in the courts, and continues to negatively impact communities of color in many areas of life, including employment, housing, and education.

Using Walden's Doctoral Capstone Resources Throughout my dissertation journey, I plan to use Walden's Doctoral Capstone Resources to help guide me through each step. The tools on the sitelike templates, rubrics, and checklistswill help me stay organized and meet the school's standards. For example, I'll use the research planning guide to shape my study and make sure I'm following the correct structure. Later, I'll use the form and style review resources to help me write clearly, use proper APA formatting, and keep my work professional and scholarly.

What other components or issues might be added to the problem statement? What other feedback can you provide that will strengthen the statement? Explain and justify your decisions and feedback.
