\fEnglish 30-1 Mise-en-Scene Analysis Critical Analytical Writing For this short assignment, you will work on fine tuning your analytical writing and visual analysis skills. You will be required to choose a still shot from Gerwig's film, Lady Bird, and examine the use of mise-en-scene elements and how they convey meaning. For this assessment, you may choose to work individually or with a partner. Should you work with a partner, you will receive the same grade on your work. Partnered writing can be very beneficial in the revision process, but choose wisely! Choose one (1) image from the Lady Bird still shot collection on D2L. If you would like a printed version of your image (no color) to annotate, please let me know. When examining your image you must: Decide on one element as your focus. This must be a mise-en-scene element that we discussed from your Literary Analysis Notes. This includes: Set Design, Color, Costume/Makeup/ Props, Lighting Camera Angle, Camera Distance You may mention other elements in relation to your chosen elements, but you must FOCUS on one. - After you choose your element, examine its purpose in developing one (1) of the following literary elements: Conflict Character Theme Write a 1-2 paragraph analysis which includes the following: An analysis of how your chosen element is used in the chosen shot (this may include context/ certain elements of the plot) The intended effect of this element An explanation of how it develops your chosen literary element The goal of this assignment is to produce a concise, focused analysis.
