As you note, there're plenty of reasons for expatriate failure. Not only does expatriate failure lower the morale of the team and company, but it's costly, "if the assignment is not a success, your organization may not see the commercial gains needed to balance the investment" (Morris, 2020). One contributing factor leading to expatriate failure is the lack of cultural and language training. Many companies will offer great relocation packages to send an employee abroad, but do they get the proper training to be effective? Specifically, "expatriate failure becomes far more likely in situations where the employee has been given insufficient training before the move. Expatriate preparations should not be rushed and must include cultural and language training" (Morris, 2020). Do you think expatriate failure would be minimized if companies included cultural and language training as part of their onboarding?
