Please respond to the discussion below using RISE model.

What is the purpose of looking at data?

When looking at data, one is able to track what is going on. This leads to accountability taking place and being able to respond as needed to data. We are able to see who is on grade level and who is not. We are able to see what kind of support students need. We are able to see if the instruction that is taking place is working. We are able to look at data and find explanations for what the next steps will be.

What patterns and trends do you see in the data set?

Teacher 1 has a total of 21 students. On average, 52 percent of students showed growth in ELA. On average, 72 percent of students showed growth in Math. On average, 69 percent of students showed growth in Science. Teacher 2 has a total of 18 students and had an average growth of 48 percent in ELA, 54 percent in Math, and 68 percent in science. Teacher 3 has 19 students. She had an average growth of 28 in ELA, 120 in math, and 66 in science. Teacher 4 has 24 students. She has an average growth of 78 in ELA,129 in Math, and 81 in Science. A trend that I see is that all of Science showed the highest growth.

Select one of the four individual classes - what patterns and trends do you see with that class?

I chose to focus on teacher 4 because I noticed that although there were the most students, there was also the most growth. I was intrigued by the data because other teachers had less students but did not show the same amount of growth across all areas. Yet, I did noticed that there was a large shift from student in Minimally Proficient to Partially Proficient .I also noticed that math had the biggest growth.

What goal would you set as an instructor for these students? Provide rationale to support the goal you would set.

I would have teacher 4 look to increase growth in ELA. I noticed that scores went down from the pre test at 29% to the post test at 22 % in ELA so I would focus on ELA. I would have that teacher focus on where the gap is based on questions that students missed. I would suggest extension activity where the focus is on what students did not do well in. I would have the teacher check in with students after the extension lesson and record data on the progress that is being made. If students are understanding concepts better, teacher 4 can move on. However, if students are still struggling with certain ELA concepts, teacher 4 can try other strategies to fill the gaps.
