The heaters are covered with a 2 cm -thick layer of fiberglass (depicted in yellow) with thermal conductivity k=0.2WmK.
If the heat transfer to the ambient is by natural convection and ambient air is at 15C, determine the following:
a) The average temperature at the OD of the insulation (2 points)
b) Assuming the top half of the pipe to be a hot place facing up, determine the temperature at the top of half of the insulation or 12 o'clock position (2 points)
c) Assuming the bottom half of the pipe to be a "hot place facing down", determine the temperature at the bottom half of the insulation or 6 o'clock position (2 points)
d) Explain why these 3 temperatures are different? (1 point)
