Please solve each itemProblem 2.
A lake of total drainage basin are =1,500 acres is fed by a creek, which in turn drains 300 acres of the basin area. The
basin includes an urban area of 200 acres and an industrial area of 100 acres. The run-off coefficients of these areas are
0.2,0.4 and 0.9 respectively. For the remainder of the area the run-off coefficient may be assumed as 0.3. The run-off
from the urban and industrial areas are collected together via a storm sewer system and discharged into the lake.
Volume of the lake =500E6cuft; average depth of lake =50ft; perimeter of lake =20,000ft.
The air quality report for the area indicates hexane to be present at 50ppb. Henry's Constant of Hexane =0.3mgmg.
Typical rainfall in the area is as follows:
First, estimate the average annual rainfall for the basin [in/day]; then using the average rainfall, calculate the following:
a) Point loading of hexane to the lake [lbs/day]
b) Linear loading of hexane to the lake [lbs/day-ft]
c) Aerial loading of hexane to the lake [lbs/day-sq ft]
d) Strengths of the above linear and aerial loadings [lbs/day-cu ft]
e) If you are to establish Water Quality Standards for this lake for growing fish, how will you revise your calculations?
Determine the strengths of the linear and aerial loadings under the revised conditions.
