MATLAB Problem #1 Consider the bicycle pump shown below. The stroke of the pump is 19.5 inches and the cylinder bore is 1.305 inches. When the piston is fully pushed in, 1.79 inches remains in the cylinder. A typical road bike tire resembles a very slender torus with a 1 inch width and a mean tire diameter of 25.75 inches. At the start of a pump stoke the pump piston is extended and the pressure inside is atmospheric and the tire pressure is equal to or greater than atmospheric. Sometime during the stroke, a one way valve (inside the valve stem) equalizes the pressure between the pump cylinder and the tire. Thus at the end of the pump stroke, the pressures between the pump and tire are equal. The process is repeated where the initial tire pressure increases from stroke to stroke. Write a MATLAB program to simuate the pumping process. Assume the compression process occurs at constant temperature. Determine (a) the pressure reached with 100 strokes (b) the number of strokes required to exceed a gage pressure of 120 psig the tire pressure (gage) as a function of number of strokes up to 100 strokes 1-74
