HMAS Kanimbla Repairs and Maintenance Project You and your team are full time employees of Nexus Group. Nexus Group has won the tender to conduct planned maintenance on HMAS Kanimbla, an Australian Navy frigate. This contract involves three main areas of work: 1. Planned maintenance 2. Staff will continue to live on the ship during the maintenance work. Therefore, noisy work cannot commence before 7am nor continue after 8pm. All waste and rubbish must be removed every day and the ship kept liveable. As part of the planned maintenance, the frigate requires load tests on the Replenishment At Sea (RAS) positions using tugs boats and special weights (3 days). The maintenance period is to take place in Perth, however, the load tests must be completed first, and can only be performed in the dock yard at Garden Island, Sydney. Furthermore, to get to Perth, the frigate must pass through Bass Straight and the weather bureau is predicting rough weather for the next 2 weeks, which maycause further delays. (Typical transit = 7 days; rough weather = 10 days). The most significant configuration change is the installation of a Mini Typhoon. This is a large, deck- mounted gun operated via dual joysticks from the operations room that defends against incoming missiles. This work is expected to take 6 weeks. The parts and test equipment required to repair the COMMS KPB system are only available in Perth. The following Statement of Work was included in the Contract: Planned maintenance items: Accommodations ladders used to board other vessels can only be tested using a barge i.e. not on deck-side as could crush people on ladder.
