Situation III Business Travel Many people travel for business and utilize rental cars. Often they are time-pressured and feel hurried. As they arrive at an airport, they often use rental car services that may feature different control systems or placement than they are accustomed in their personal vehicles. Because they are generally very new vehicles, they are equipped with the latest features that drivers may not recognize, utilize, or may cause confusion or frustration.

Part I: Define the Problem

1) The frustration and confusion will be magnified for the hurried driver, which could lead to car accidents after acquiring the new vehicle.

2) New cars that are confusing to the hurried driver could cause road rage that could lead to violence.

Testable Solution

Providing customers with in-depth knowledge and demonstrations of the new car features the customers will leave the car rental service less frustrated.

Part II:

This section is key as it forms the basis for a proposal to take to decision-makers that identifies a problem worth solving, gives some basis for a solution as well as its cost-effectiveness or value in other terms. You may also use your own experiences, but you must include text or other substantive, published, reviewed documentation as well for support.

a. Analysis & Support.

For each of the problems in Part I, begin with a short narrative that provides evidence and support for a problem(s). In this section, set up the value and feasibility of the solution and end with a brief statement of the proposed solution(s).

b. Design & Solutioning.

Begin by stating any key limitations and follow with the hypothesis for each in a way that can be evaluated and how you will measure it is sure to include a measurement scale and if the measure is objective or subjective. Elaborate briefly on the experimental design to test your hypothesis. Chapter Two of the text is a good reference for many experimental techniques as well as a number of cases and examples in the Additional Reference Materials.
