Statement of Purpose - The purpose of this report is to enhance knowledge of Indian culture. The report will include information about social customs, religious beliefs, family life, and economic institutions. This data is significant for success of our company emerging in the Indian marketplace. Research Strategy I. Social customs - One should know how Indians generally greet one another; it is either by Namaste or by hand shaking. Indians in business generally trust the people who respect their culture. As an outsider, if we respect Indian culture we can have a greater impact on business. Indians also like to add suffix ji for seniors as a sign of respect in business. II. Religious life - India is very diversified when it comes to culture, so each state in India is unique. We should respect their uniqueness, which helps to mutually connect with each other. III. Family life - When it comes to family life, Indians stay in joint family homes. They stay with their parents their whole life, which makes them tolerant in any condition. So as an outsider one should get accustomed to the way India's live with their family. While doing business in India, one should respect elders, which creates a bonding, and one way or the other it is very helpful in professional as well as in personal life. IV. Economic Institutions - Institutions such as RBI play a very important role in India. Political institutions are the ones who can give grants in businesses, which can help in the long run. Having good relations with politicians in India can help businesses to grow faster.

Before selecting the country, though, consult your campus international student program for volunteers who are willing to be interviewed. Your instructor may make advance arrangements with international student volunteers. Your Task In teams of three to five, collect information about your target country from research databases, the Internet, and other sources. Then invite an international student representing your target country to be interviewed by your group. Alternatively, you could interview a faculty member who hails from another country. Prepare and know your interview questions and be courteous; people like to talk about themselves, but no one wants to waste time. As you conduct primary and secondary research, investigate the topics listed in Figure 13.4. Confirm what you learn in your secondary research by talking with your interviewee.
