Hi Team, The dark side of technology from e-waste to the lost of jobs have become sort of the norm these days. Consumers are caught between a rock and heart place when it comes to upgrading/changing their electronic devices. Apple is constantly upgrading their iPhones and forces consumers to upgrade due to the fact that the older models mysteriously starts having issues. The older models begin to slow down and starts having resolved issues. Consumers get little to no compensation for trading in their phones so they end up keeping them and discarding them which contributes to e-waste. As stated in the article, " But manufacturers have given people fewer and fewer viable ways to keep older electronics functioning effectively" (Ahmed, 2016). Both manufacturers and consumers can be doing more to minimize e-waste and reduce the number of defective devices being discarded improperly. Manufacturers should first ensure that they aren't any built-in obsolescence, provide consumer with incentives for turning in their old devices. From a job loss perspective, since devices aren't being repaired many technicians and repair shops are losing jobs. I find it troubling that the government isn't being more stringent with regulations that requires manufacturers to cease adding built-in obsolescence that forces consumers to upgrade their devices and then improperly discard their old devices. Manufacturers should also provide consumers with the ways and means to properly dispose of old devices hassle free with no strings attached. Hey class, Although technology and electronics have improved the way we communicate and have several advantages, they have a dark side. Their efficiency can decrease because of its popularity and the company's desire to sell new products. There is the idea of pushing consumers to buy new items, so manufacturers make difficult, inconvenient, or high costs to repair, which increases the e-waste. Nowadays, E-waste is a global ecological issue. It raises air, water and soil pollution, threat information security, and even human exportation. The fault is both consumers and manufacturers because the first one keeps buying goods, and the second one has given people less viable ways to keep older electronics. E-waste affects the environment and human health. Soil is very important to air that we breathe and the food we eat, and e-waste release toxic heavy metals such as arsenic and cadmium. These influence plants and trees and these toxins can enter the human food supply. It has a negative impact on the water, toxins also enter the groundwater, and many animals rely on water, so there is an imbalance in the environment. Also, it has negative effects on the air. When it is incinerated at the landfills, release hydrocarbons that pollute the air we and animal breath
