please write a reply to this post: In Cultural Sensitivity in a project, this is prevalent in the Surgical Operating Room environment. When we are introduced to Surgeons for the facility, the Human Resources Team typically follows a New Hire Orientation Project Plan for the person and teams. After introduction to the new surgeon, we then can learn more about the doctors background. This can include where they studied at, how long they have been in practice, what are their surgical specialties and if studied at or are originally from a country outside of the United States.
Having myself worked directly with surgeons who are from many different countries, this is a continual exercise in Cultural Sensitivity. This can include being aware of the pace they like to keep, adjusting to different vocal dialects, the types of music selected to be playing in the background and the types of appropriate side conversations. While all this attention to detail applies to any new surgeon to an Operating Room, when you keep these in mind for surgeons who are from other countries, I have found them appreciative and is beneficial to develop better working relationship more quickly and make for a more productive and less stressful work environment for all the team.
