Your idea for the business
The anticipated target market/s and/or segment/s
Why you think that your business idea would be successful
The methods of market research (both primary and secondary) that
you intend to carry out for your investigation

A description of the different methods of primary research and
secondary research that you plan to use (you should have at least

A justified description of the sampling method/s you will use for
Primary Research
Explanations for why you have chosen these research methods

and how the research methods complement each other)
An Appendix (section at the end of your report) with copies of ALL
questionnaires, interview questions, print screens from websites you may have used and any other relevant documents that formed part of your research.
3. Results of Research and Analysis of Research Results:
In this section you need to present your research results. Some ideas for this are:
Questionnaire Results: Results should be presented in a table and key results illustrated with different forms of graph (bar chart, divided bar chart, pie chart etc)
Closed Question Results: Results should be presented in a visual form such as graphs & charts
Open Question Results: Results cannot be easily presented in a visual form and will need to be described verbally (in writing)
Competitor Analysis: This should show who your main competitors are, and a short description of their Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Place & Promotion), you should support this research with relevant competitor data, for example by taking a print screen from competitor website/s
Economic Analysis: This could consider current economic conditions in your market. For example, information/research into Unemployment, Population Growth, Economic Growth could help answer questions as to what sort of marketing strategies are more/less likely to be successful. You are required to support your findings from relevant websites such as:

Analysis & Evaluation of Research Results
You must analyse and evaluate the results of your research using research results to make decisions about your business. In your analysis, you are basically looking for data which supports (or NOT supports) the decisions you will need to make when devising a Marketing Plan.
Analysis should discuss issues such as:
Whether the results were expected/unexpected and why,
How the results of research questions might support (or not!) your
business idea,
Possible reasons for the results you obtained,
Suggestions of possible additional research which could be
conducted in future to clarify what has been discovered so far.
4. The Marketing Recommendations: These must be based on results from your research.
To make appropriate decisions about your business plan you must make sure that you are using evidence from your research to justify your choices - See example below (on Page 6) E.g. Price. Any decision made about you new business should be supported with research data.
This section should be written under the following headings:
Product: Analysis of results relating to the goods or services that you intend to sell. In this section you should describe in detail the product (or service) that you intend to provide. For example: Product Quality, Likely Demand, USP/s Customer Needs/Wants it Satisfies, Other Product Features, Competitors Product/s
Price: Analysis of results relating to the price that you plan to charge for your product. For example:
How much will you actually charge for the product
Pricing Strategies: You should recommend two pricing strategies. The first pricing strategy is for your products when your business first opens and then a second pricing strategy for the products once the business has been established.
You need to justify your reasons for choosing each strategy.
Place In this section, you will describe the place/s that your product will be sold or the location that your business will be located. It may also be appropriate to describe the sales channels that you plan to use such as independent retailers, supermarkets, online sales, telesales or door to door for example.
Promotion: Analysis of results relating to which methods of promotion would be most suitable for your business.
How will you promote your business?
Will you use above the line or below the line promotion?
Where will you advertise?
As always, your decisions should be based on the results of your research. You should also refer to business theory, making reference to the benefits & drawbacks of possible promotional methods
Remember you are a start-up business so you are unlikely have the finance to promote through media such as television!
5. Marketing Objectives
You should describe 2 - 3 marketing objectives for your business and explain the reasons why you have chosen them i.e. why or how having these objectives is likely to help your business become successful. (Remember any objective should be SMART i.e. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time specific)
E.g. Marketing Objective 1: To place 10,000 promotional leaflets on cars in the Muscat area within the first month of trading
6. Conclusion and Evaluation
In your conclusion you should consider:
Do you think that your business idea would be a success (you need
to justify your answer)?
Is there anything that you would need to change about your
business to make it a success? Do a SWOT.
Were there any weaknesses in your research methods?
How would you change your methods of research?
What additional methods of research do you need to carry out
(explain why)?
NOTE: You may discover, after doing the research, that your business idea is NOT commercially viable. This is not a problem and will not lose you marks!!! In fact if you will be rewarded for objective (research based) statements as to the commercial viability of your business!
