Although we$$ve made waves in making opportunities for those with disabilities to access, there is still a long way to go$.$ I think about my job for example, although there are some improvements that have been made accessibility wise there is still a lot that lacks. The building I work in has no designated parking for those with disabilities, many of the hallways are tight and difficult to maneuver and there is only one entry way that is level enough to enter is someone is a wheelchair or cane user. Even though the $$requirements$$ are met, there is not a push to do more and unfortunately many businesses and establishments may also feel the way same. Part of this could be due to stigma and lack of education on disability and how important accessibility and inclusion is$.$ The other part may be due to not wanting to above and beyond, if they are able to meet the requirements to open they may not consider how there is more improvements that can be done that could be far more inclusive and helpful. I$$ve been to restaurants where the majority of seating is bar top. For those who use wheelchairs or may struggle with a physical disability these seats may not be safe or effective for them to use. Being courteous and thinking ahead to problem solve these issues beforehand could be incredibly helpful to those who live with disabilities. These examples also raise questions for employment, if someone with a disability wouldn$$t be able to frequent the establishment, more than likely, they would not be comfortable working in that environment either. More work needs to be done to create equal opportunities for those with disabilities to be able to fully participate in life without restrictions.
