Currently I am working at FedEx as a Ramp Transport Driver. What that title means is that I drive Tractor-Trailers carrying freight from customers to our sorting facilities. Its pretty easy work but is pretty demanding depending on what shift you are on.

My primary motivation for working at FedEx is the benefits I need from being employed, including the medical benefits as well as the tuition reimbursement benefits I receive. This would make my motivation extrinsic, as I seek to gain benefits over a sense of accomplishment in my work.

In terms of justice I struggle to say that our operation acts in displaying both distributive and procedural justice, at least from my point of view. Equipment is distributed based on seniority rather than workload, so some driver may have a more strenuous route only made harder by having older tools. Fortunately I dont need to struggle with that issue but have observed the toll it takes on other employees.

My workplace does do a solid job with goal setting however. We set many goals ranging from companywide goals to individual goals. An example of this would be our goal to have an accident free workplace. We are often reminded to place safety first as well as to report anything that could be a potential hazard. To monitor our progress we even have digital counters to note how many days we have gone accident free. With rewards for workgroups that go extended periods without incidents.

There are attempts to encourage intrinsic motivators, with appreciation weeks for drivers. As well as recognition for safe driving and employment milestones. Which does inspire some employees to do well.
