The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution caused a big shift in the population, economic structures, and society overall. This leads me to ask a few significant questions, such as how these changes influenced each other and shaped history during the revolution. Looking through the economic and population growth shown by Muldrew and Allen and the dive into demographic dynamics by Feinstein shown in Hudson's (2014) 'The Industrial Revolution,' combined with the history of environmental pollution during the Renaissance (renaissance lead to capitalism, which lead to industrial revolution?) as shown in Jarrige and Le Roux's (2020) "The Contamination of the Earth: A History of Pollutions in the Industrial Age," can help me break down how the population dynamics got intertwined with the economic growth, and labor exploitation. Particularly diving into the labor exploitation of women and children who, during the industrial revolution, were working in workshops, factories, and households. Being able to understand how this all connects and effects each other can help everybody understand how the industrial revolution, despite having great effects on the economy at the time, took advantage of workers, polluted the environment, and caused a wealth gap, negatively impacting a large portion of society.
