ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

In pre-assigned teams of four, you will work together to build an external persuasive

proposal to respond to a Request For Proposal (RFP) from a fictitious toy company.

The RFP is as follows:

Request For Proposal: Child's Play Inc. seeks gender-neutral toy for 6-10-year-olds

for the upcoming holiday season

This is an RFP for a unique children's toy to be manufactured and sold exclusively at

Child's Play Inc. Child's Play has been a leader in children's toys since the 1970s as a

manufacturer and distributor. Child's Play prides itself on being an outlet for entrepreneurs

to showcase their specialty products. For the holiday season, we have specific toys for

each age group, except one. We need to find a new gender-neutral toy to launch for the

6-10 age category.

Background: Child's Play Inc. manufactures and distributes specialty children's toys.

Manufacturing facilities are located in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto. Child's Play

stores are located in all the major cities across Canada. Sales are made through TV

advertisements on children's shows.

The Need: This RFP is for an external party to propose a unique toy to be manufactured

and launched exclusively at Child's Play stores on December 1, 2025 for the upcoming

holiday season. The successful party will:

Have a unique gender inclusive product for the 6-10 age group

Identify how the product will add value to Child's Play Inc.

Identify why the product is ideal for Child's Play to manufacture, distribute, and

promote

Display why their company is ideal for a partnership with Child's Play Inc.

Budget: The budget should incorporate the following assumptions:

1 Timing of the project is from the time of hire to when the toy is in Child's Play

stores (by December 1st)

The budget section should include a written description with tables to enhance

readability for two separate budgets:

o The cost for Child's Play to hire your team for this project (flat fee?

royalties? hourly?) and any estimated expenses for your team

o Your estimated cost for development of the toy (including how much it would

cost to make the toy vs. how much the suggested selling price could be)

o Any other budgetary considerations your team feel are important to include

The product will be manufactured in the Child's Play facilities

Submission: Proposals must be submitted to Child's Play by June 6, 2025, with hire set

for one week after.

Proposals should be addressed to the VP of Operations, Carina Ludgate, at Child's Play

Head Office: 10700 104 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 4S2.

We are looking forward to working with you.

Your team's proposal should include the following:

A covering letter;

A title page;

Table of contents;

An executive summary or introduction;

A background or about section;

The specific need/problem/project goal;

The deliverable(s) your team will provide;

A budget and timeline;

Evidence of your team's ability to deliver (experience, credentials);

Appendix (if needed);

And any other details you feel are important for your RFP evaluators to know.

Hints:

For information on how to build effective, persuasive proposals, refer to chapter 9 of the

course textbook and the lectures from week 5.

Watch for grammatical errors and follow effective proposal formatting.

Consider including information related to your team's credentials that may be a fit for this

RFP (you can make up credentials).

Don't be afraid to get creative with the formatting and delivery of your proposal. You want to

stand out against competing firms that are also responding to this RFP.
