Policy Group Assignment Outline -30% Due week 4

The intent of this group assignment is to demonstrate understanding of both required and voluntary standards that child care programs must meet that have been reviewed throughout this course.

Reflect on the connections between Early Childhood program policy and practice. For example, a centre may exceed minimum requirements in practice (as you may have observed from your placements), however, the program's written policydoes not reflect this.

Demonstrate your knowledge of good practice through providing clear and specific answers with examples.

The assignment benefits from the collective insights of the group and demonstrates the group's commitment to working collaboratively (roles, timelines, communication...). This dialogue can contribute to emerging understandings, and enable each group member to analyze, compare and reflect on findings across the Child Care & Early Years Act, Assessment for Quality Improvement and the group's choice for measuring Quality Standards such as NAEYC Accreditation Standards or CECE Practice Note on Supervision.

A group contract (optional) is posted as a resource to support the groups indeveloping role definitions and time limes.

Groups will collect 2 policies on Supervision from your placements. Students will work in groups of 4 to create a 7-10-minute slide show with audio. Each member of the group will receive the same grade.

The slide show is worth 30% of your total grade and is due Week 4 of second semester.

When completed, one member of the group will upload a copy of their presentation to Brightspace.

Create a PowerPoint slide show consisting of 6 slides with audio. (Instructions on how to do this are outlined below.

Ensure that you use PowerPoint to create your slides. Do not use Google Docs- this prevents your instructor from hearing the audio as permissions are blocked. Use Blackboard collaborate "My Group" link as a way to connect with your peers and share documentation (there is a lot of tools to share documents and to collaborate).

Everyone in the group must contribute a slide for the presentation. Each member of the group will speak on the slide. The groups will manage this division of their work. Audio should be clear with a conversational tone. Note: Writing out the points you wish to include will help you in your audio work

Slide 1: The title slide, includes the name of this assignment as well contain the full names & student numbers of each group member. Audio is optional on this slide.

Slide 2 Cite 1 relevant regulation (i.e., relevant to supervision of children) from the Child Care & Early Years Act and explain specifically how each of your 2 selected program policies meets or does not meet the standards for this regulations. Analyze each centre separately.

Slide 3 Cite 1 relevant Criteria from the City of Toronto's Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI), again relevant to supervision of children. You can choose any age group to focus on. Determine how each of your 2 selected centrepolicies meets the criteria, and at which level the criteria is being met. Analyze each centre separately.

Slide 4 Identify 1 relevant Quality Standard focused on supervision of childrenfor each of your selected centre policies and discuss how the chosen standards are relevant to each policy. In this section, it is important to demonstrate your understanding of what is a quality practice. Ensure that the quality standards that the group selects are at a higher level than the CCEYA regulations.

Slide 5 Peer Assessment: This slide provides a statement reflecting both your individual and your group's learning process.

Slide 6 Provide a bibliography using APA standards including program policies, other resources Listed as well as the course text and citing title of class PowerPoints used. This slide does not include audio.

Have one member upload the PowerPoint slide with audio onto Blackboard.
