Popular Culture /Case Study Analysis
Your task is to choose any medium of popular culture and analyze it; make sure you connect your findings to at least one of the class readings, but you can have more than one. What is an example of popular culture to you and what does it mean? Think carefully about your pop culture and medium; depending on the medium, you will be analyzing different components. For instance, a meme will be different from a TikTok challenge.
OR
Your task is to find a case study in popular culture and analyze it; still make sure you connect your findings to at least one of the class readings, but you can have more than one. What is an example of an incident or event you wish to discuss and why is it relevant? Think carefully about the future implications of the case study and perhaps you can have a suggestion or conclusion about popular culture and how we communicate.
You may work individually or in groups (3 is recommended for the maximum); ensure your name and student number(s) is/are on your analysis. You may demonstrate your knowledge via writing or by a video or audio file.
If you write, the minimum is 1.5 pages of writing alone and use proper APA formatting (single space is recommended, but you should have a minimum of 3 pages if you double space).
If you do a video or audio file, the minimum is 4-5 minutes and your references must be listed at the end.
Of course, you are also welcome to use another medium if you wish; please consult with me prior to beginning to ensure you are on topic.
Page #1 Planning and preparation
Show your justification for your analysis and include the following for the first page:
Identify the popular culture example and justify why this is popular
OR
State the case study and tell me why you chose this event/incident
If you work in groups, state what portion of the work you accomplished
State which part of the analysis was easy and which part was difficult
*Regardless of the medium, you must answer the Planning and preparation when you submit your work; have this planning and preparation page be the first page before the second page, which is your analysis. You must also have a title page and appropriate reference page.
The case study/pop culture analysis will be marked according to: critical analysis, in-depth connection to the course materials, relevant and necessary information, proper context and content, well organized and structured formatting.
