Popular Name with Functions Using Python

To demonstrate how functions can be used to reduce redundant code in a program and improve the logic flow, you are going to rewrite Programming Assignment 9 Popular Names using functions. The new program must use at least two new functions:

The getNamesList function will take in a file name as a parameter and return a list of the names from the file. This function will be called to read the girl names file and create the girl names list and called again to read the boy names file and create the boy names list.

The checkName function will take in two parameters; a name, and a list, and return the rank of the name in the list. If the name is not in the list, it will return a rank of zero. This function will be called to check a name in either the boy names list or the girl names list.

The main logic of the program will be modified to use these two functions.

Popular Names

This program will use two files: GirlNames.txt and BoyNames.txt. They each contain the 200 most popular names for the years 2000-2009. You must download these files to your computer and place them in the directory that your Python program will run from. There is a video that will explain how to download these files.Write a program that reads the contents of the two files into separate lists. The user will then be able to enter a name and the application will display messages indicating whether the name is among the most popular in each list and where the name ranked in each list.
