Class,
Anatomy and physiology are connected to medical coding and billing in the way that they provide the foundation for understanding the medical language and terminology needed for performing primary duties and/or submitting insurance claims.A few of the primary duties of medical billers involve gathering and interpreting "...medical information such as diseases or symptoms and diagnostic descriptions and procedures to accurately" (HRSM, n.d.) assign the correct billing code along with "Provide technical guidance to physicians and other staff in identifying and resolving issues" (HRSM, n.d.)both of which requires a firm knowledge of the medical language learned through A&P.
By having an understanding of the terminology through combining word roots with prefixes/suffixes, a medical coder would be able to accurately access and document the patient's visit results, symptoms and analysis of the healthcare physician or provider. As stated in the text, "...coders, transcriptionists, and health information technicians, all of whom deal extensively with medical charts and patient records, must master this language" (Colbert, 2018) and this is how A&P plays a huge part in understanding the medical language.
