What else do marketers need to know and understand to be effective? Beyond the environmental scanning and marketing research activities, they need to understand their intended customers! Whether the organization mostly deals with end consumers or with business customers, they need to understand, as clearly as possible, what makes their target market excited, happy, and satisfied. They need to do their best to see the world through the eyes of their customers (various marketing research activities can help a LOT with this). Chapter 5 provides a high-level overview of what might be taken into consideration related to end consumers......remember, SU offers a whole course in Consumer Behavior, which dives into greater depth on each of the topics mentioned in this chapter! Chapter 6 focuses on business customers and the additional or different considerations that might be kept in mind when an organization's target market is not the end consumer. I recommend reading chapter 5 carefully and working to relate it to your own experiences as a consumer. Then skim chapter 6 and look for differences when the customer is not the end consumer.
