Power can be gained in numerous different ways within the healthcare field. There are many different specializations that employees possess. Power at all levels of the healthcare industry is used for the betterment of an organization either financially or societally. However, when power is not used in line with the goals set out by the organization, problems can occur. Power must be used cautiously within healthcare organizations due to the fact that healthcare organizations are composed of interconnected parts that can all be affected even by small changes that occur. Power can be displayed in various different ways. For example a physician shows power through expert power from an individual perspective and decision-making power from an organizational perspective (Gordon & Waddington, 2004). A team member's levels of specialization often plays into which forms of power they exude and also which forms of power they are perceived to have. Power involves the aspect of leadership. All physicians are expected to take on leadership roles within their organization. Whether it's in an administrative, training, or clinical setting, they all grant an individual some form of power. Also, leadership can be found at any level or in any role, but when power is
