the Project Charter template, and your imagination/ creativity/ common sense to prepare a formal Project Charter document for this project. You are not required to do additional external research for this task - the information and links in the Statement of Work (along with your imagination/creativity) will be sufficient for you to complete this task.
Note: The product has already been developed and launched. We're going to wind the clock back to December 2016, when the project commences. You are going to prepare a Project Charter for the product development project. The Project Manager is Clemens Dyckmans at Adidas. Other project team members are identified in the linked articles that are found in the SOW (you may give them specific roles/responsibilities/authorities in the Charter).
- The project charter is issued by the project initiator or sponsor. It formally authorizes the existence of a project and provides the Project Manager with the authority to apply organizational resources to project activities. (Note: The italicized text in this template is used to explain each section of the document. When completing your Project Charter, please delete the italicized text.)
- Project Description:
- Using one or two sentences, briefly describe the purpose of this project.
Project Background: Explain the justification for the project. WHY are we undertaking this project?
Key Deliverables: Do not put a lot of detail here. Provide a brief, summary description of characteristics, functions, and/or features of the key deliverables that will be produced.
Summary Budget: Provide very few details here. What is the 'bottom line' estimated budget for the project? Do NOT provide details!
Initial Risks: Briefly describe three or four obvious key risks that might cause problems or project failure.
Summary Milestones (Including Estimated Due Date for Each Milestone): List key progress points for the project (e.g., what marks the transition from one stage of a project to the next stage of the project?). Milestones include the completion of a major event or deliverable, where progress is evaluated or measured. Projects often include several milestones.
Project Manager Authority Level
Staffing Decisions: What authority does the Project Manager have regarding the composition of the project team? (e.g., Can he/she assign team members or remove them? Can he/she delegate tasks to project team members? If he/she must consult with another manager, who should be consulted (name of a person or job title of that person)?
Technical Decisions: To what extent does the Project Manager have authority to make technical decisions during the planning or execution of the project? (Project Managers may not be subject-matter experts and so technical decisions relating to producing deliverables may be made by other personnel). If he/she must consult with another manager, who should be consulted (name of a person or job title of that person)?
Authority Limitations: The Project Manager typically is responsible for day-to-day decision-making for the project. Does the Project Manager have any limitations to his/her authority that are not listed above? Are there any other situations (excluding decisions mentioned in the two previous sections) where external stakeholders (such as the Client/Sponsor) make final decisions? Please specify.
Oversight/Escalation Process: Briefly describe the escalation process/path when issues arise during the planning or execution of the project.(See https://tcgen.com/blog/unclear-escalation-paths-can-kill-projects for example)
- Insert APA-formatted references here. These include references to the relevant course template/PPT slides and references to any other external sources that were used to complete this document. If you do not include references at the end of this document, you will receive a grade of zero on this assignment!
