Question: Prepare and submit three conceptual truss elevations based on the project constraints listed below to connect the WAEC building to the adjacent Robert C .

Prepare and submit three conceptual truss elevations based on the project constraints listed below to
connect the WAEC building to the adjacent Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center. These
conceptual elevations can be hand-drawn (neatly) or generated using any CAD software of your choosing.
For each layout, confirm that it=0 and that the truss meets both member length requirements as well as
envelope requirements.
In addition, choose one layout for final design and describe your selection strategy for choosing said
layout. This description should be no more than a paragraph long, and your selection strategy can be
based on any parameters that you deem important (i.e., number of members, independent research, etc.).
Note that individual member selection, stress/deflection computations, and cost estimates are not required
for Submittal 1. Those will be completed during Submittal 2.
Submit as a single PDF via Blackboard.
The truss shall be laid out according to the following parameters:
Truss Design Parameters:
L=120 feet
Walkway Width =24 feet
Load =950 psf
Limited to W12s
allow=32ksi
max=L400
Steel Price =$2.18lb
E=29000ksi for all members
Project Constraints:
it=0(for all layouts)
Truss is simply supported at the ends.
Truss must contain a joint at midspan
along the bottom of the truss.
No individual truss member may exceed
22 feet in length.
Truss members must be straight (i.e., no
arches or curved members).
The truss must not exceed an envelope
+-16 feet from the walkway (=16 feet).
