Prepare closing argument for arbitration case : Creating An Effective Closing Argument for this case: Janis Sands has been a school security guard in the Hooper School District for six and a half years. She works at the Blacklick Elementary School. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. Security guards must report at 7:30 a.m. On the morning of September 24,2018, Ms. Sands awoke at 5:30 a.m. She felt ill. Nevertheless, she decided to prepare to go to work. Shortly thereafter, before her usual time of departure at approximately 6:40 a.m., she decided that she was too ill to work that day. She called the school at 6:45 a.m. to report that she would not be in that day. The following day Janis Sands reported to work as usual. She completed her duties that day and for the remainder of the week. The week after her return to work she had a conference with Mr. Woods, the School Superintendent. He informed her that she would not be paid for that Monday because she had not called in to report 60 minutes before her starting time. He acknowledged that the District was able to get a substitute security guard for Ms. Sands post in a timely manner. In response to her question, she was also told that in conformance with the School Policy Manual she would not have had her pay docked if she had gone to school and then reported sick and gone home. On October 2,2018, Ms. Sands and her representative, Charles Good Fellow, fi led a grievance claiming that her sick leave rights had been denied. Remedy sought was that her wages for September 24 be returned. The parties were unable to resolve their diff erences during the lower steps of the grievance procedure. On November 4,2018, the issue was submitted to arbitration. Both parties stipulate that the matter is properly in the arbitration forum and that the issue to be resolved is Did the Hooper City School District violate Article XV-A of the contract by denying sick leave to Janis Sands for her absence of September 24,2018? If so, what should the remedy be?
