Creating innovative, eye-catching, and thoughtful slide decks is a skill you've been developing. Here's a quick reminder of the tips for a good slide deck.

• Consistent Look and Feel

  • Images should speak strongly about the concept.

Crafting the Slides

Using the argumentative outline from an earlier lesson, it's time to transition that into your slide deck. First, incorporate your instructor's feedback and tweak anything that may need some extra support or polishing. Then, take that polished information and follow the steps below to go from text to slide deck. Let's look at a few samples.

From an Outline

Step 1: Select a Section of the Outline.

1. Bloomberg forced chain restaurants in the city to post calorie counts.
   1. Food giants are more conscious of the ingredients they are putting into their offerings.
      • A study of 37 sit-down and quick-service burger, pizza, sandwich, and Tex-Mex chains in the area found fast-food entrees contained about 19 fewer calories only 18 months after the regulation was implemented.
      • A study of Starbucks outlets in NYC showed that customers bought 6% fewer calories after outlets started posting calorie counts.

Step 2: Cull Out Information.

Effects of informing people of calorie counts. Starbucks, people bought 6% fewer calories. Quick service restaurants lowered 19 fewer calories per meal. Rules impacted customers' buying habits and the foods that large restaurants serve.

Step 3: Create the Slide's

After youve done all that Reflect on your work.

Write a paragraph reflecting on your research experience and the process of creating the slide deck. Discuss the following points:

• What is something interesting you learned while conducting your research?
• Why do you think your audience will enjoy your presentation?
• If you were to start the argument and research module over, what is one thing you would do differently? What is one thing you'd do the same?
