Question: Problem 1 A pressurized source ( 1 0 0 ) supplies a total of 1 6 f t 3 s e c ( c f

Problem 1
A pressurized source (100) supplies a total of 16ft3sec(cfs) in steel pipes - water is delivered
to a power plant for cooling and to an oil refinery for process.
a) Calculate flow rates (cfs) delivered to the power plant and to the oil refinery.
b) Calculate pressure (psi) in the 18-in diameter pipe (f=0.018) immediately before it divides
into the 12-in diameter pipe (f=0.020) line and the dineter pin (f=0.025). The 12-in
line contains a 90 elbow (K=0.6), a flow meter (K=1.5) and a globe valve (K=3.0); the 4-
in line contains a 90 elbow (K=0.2), a flow meter (K=0.5) and a globe valve (K=1.0)-
minor losses are calculated as sum of K factors multiplied by velocity head.
