Problem 1 Two products (A and B) are to be produced

Problem 1 Two products (A and B) are to be produced in a factory. The following information are obtained from product, process and schedule design as well as the marketing department. You are supposed to design the factory layout. Product A is processed on Milling, Turning, and Drilling, in this sequence. Product B is processed on Turning, Milling and Drilling in this sequence. Followings are standard times and percent defectives for the parts on each station. Efficiency of the machines and the area required for each machine (not the whole department) are also given at the bottom of the table. Area required for raw material storage is 90m2 and for finished products it is 90m2. Product A is twice as heavy as product B and thus more difficult to move. The machines will be operated 8 hours/day and 300 days/year. Answer the following questions: a) Determine the number of milling and turning machines required for the product and the process layouts. b) Calculate the space required in each layout (product and process layouts). c) Consider the following product and process layout arrangements and determine the material flow matrix for each case. d) Determine the layouts with appropriate areas and dimensions for the indicated cases. e) Calculate the total flow for each layout arrangement by taking into consideration the material handling difficulty between A and B
