The Municipality in Beirut has a waste disposal problem. Their local landfill is getting full and the need to find an alternative can no longer be ignored. Two alternatives are under consideration. One possibility $($Alternative $1)$ is to hire a local firm to haul away all of the trash in the land fill so that it can be filled in again. A second possibility $($Alternative $2)$ is to start a recycling program that will allow the township to sell some types of waste, to compost other types, and to hire a local firm to haul away the rest.The two projects involve the following expected streams of net cash flows and initial outlays:
